I didn't plan on becoming a business owner...
In fact, my journey actually began in a chemistry lab, working on projects for companies like Boeing. Although this work honed my analytical skills and attention to detail, it didn't fulfill me. After serving in AmeriCorps, I found my passion for community and sustainable food culture, which led me to start a nonprofit. I created community garden spaces and educational programs, and I loved every moment of that work.
During this time, I realized that it wasn’t just about growing food or building garden spaces; it was about fostering real connections within the community. I discovered that storytelling was at the heart of it all; whether I was talking to a child about where their food comes from or rallying volunteers to contribute to a local project. Sharing these narratives, creating authentic bonds, and watching people engage with the mission was deeply rewarding.
For the next 10 years of my career, I worked with both small and large companies, leading their digital marketing and business teams. But after my son was born, and facing the uncertainty of layoffs, I knew it was time to embrace my entrepreneurial spirit. I realized I could turn my passion into something not only fulfilling but sustainable for my family.
I understand the struggle of figuring out how to turn your passion and creative gifts into a business that generates real income. It’s not always easy to bridge the gap between having a vision and making it a reality that pays the bills. You pour yourself into your craft, but finding the right strategy to monetize your skills and creativity can be overwhelming. I’ve been there; questioning how to take that leap, unsure where to start, and dealing with the fears of uncertainty.
